125. Betsy-Tacy by Maud Hart Lovelace

After reading books about the Biafran (Nigerian Civil) War, Palestinian refugees, slavery in America, and the fallout of Chernobyl, I needed to take a break and read some innocent and fanciful children's literature!

This story is about the beginning of a friendship between two little girls, Betsy and Tacy. In the end, they meet Tib who will be part of the next book!

This is on the 1000 Books to Read Before You Die list. This is the reason why Mustich put the series on the list:
Maud Hart Lovelace’s 1940s series, which chronicles the lifelong friendship of Betsy, a resourceful storyteller, and Tacy, the very bashful girl who moves in next door the summer before they enter the first grade, is set in friendly Minnesota. As they follow Betsy and Tacy and their friend Tib up and down hills, real and figurative, from elementary school through Betsy’s Wedding (1955), readers can share the shape and substance, the romance and circumstance, of growing up. “Betsy’s mother,” the author writes, “was a great believer in people having private corners,” and Lovelace’s lovely books allow children an inviting alcove of their own in which to measure their experience.
