16 - Food and Fitness VLOG

15 - Food and Fitness VLOG: REBOOT

Tuesday Morning Soothing Worship Freewrite

I am setting the timer for fifteen minutes and listening to my Creation to Christ recordings. I told someone yesterday (who was it?) that I was a little down (Oh, it was Michelle D.), and I listened to all these recordings on the way home from Newberg, and I was so encouraged by the end of my drive. There is something about listening to these recordings that let me see the "Bird's Eye View" of God's illustrious plan for all peoples. It gives such insight into the very character of God. :)

It was a good talk with Michelle. It ended up being two hours! Ack! I did not expect to spend so much time doing that in the middle of the day. I tried to not do any work yesterday, but I updated the "Kingdom and Gospel in Luke" handout because I had made a HUGE mistake.

I also made the schedule for the September launch of the Kingdom Community Light. I am still praying into it and hope that God will bring people to it.

I wonder if Calvary will have us come and give a training on what we do. :)

I just finished listening to Jon Thurlow, Soothing Worship. I should find the link and put it on this blog. It is such a great 24 minute time of focus and worship. God is longing for us.

I had two days in a row of food recording! YAY! I am so glad that I am not alone anymore because Rachel and Katrina both decided that they needed to be accountable again. I got tired of sending in my reports without any response. I don't know what it is like to have multiple children (I think there are 11 between the two of them). So, I cannot fault them for not responding, but I was all alone. I just needed to focus again because other than a two week pull in in July and October and a one week pull in in January, I have been eating with abandon for the last fourteen months.

The good news is that my average daily overeating has only been 116 calories!  That is all it takes to put weight back on. Thankfully I had those pull in times, but now I am looking at a five week pull in time versus 1-2 weeks to get things back in place. So, I am two days into this 35 day process. Only 33 more days to go! WOOHOO! I can do it. I have this rule that I will not do a Bible Book Club editing day unless I had a 1000 calorie deficit the day before. Yesterday, I was going to go out and walk, but it POURED. I thought I had a little break and was planning on a long walk, but about five minutes into the walk, I was SOAKED. So, I came home saying, "I will go to Snap Fitness tonight." Yah, right!  It did not happen. So, while my eating was awesome yesterday, I did not make my calorie burn goal! So, my deficit was less then 1000. So, there you go. I will not sit as long if I do not do a post.

Here is my result from yesterday:

Oh there goes the timer. Here is a link to the Jon Thurlow "Soothing Worship":

Friday Fifteen Freewrite

I ended up having a free day today because Joanne moved to Dayton so we are no longer meeting on Friday mornings, and Kellie and I met last Wednesday instead of the Friday before so I am thinking we will also not meet today.

All that said, I am somewhat "stuck" in doors until the peak of the flowering trees is over. Even Zertex and Xlear nasal spray cannot stem the pollen attack during these peak days. So, I am working out indoors too today by going to Snap Fitness later on today.

I have been putting the final touches on Genesis to have it available in a word processor for those who do not want to have to look online and read it backwards on the blog!

I was challenged to be able to explain the process of transformation that God has brought me on in the last few months. I cannot articulate it other than He has gotten my priorities VERY straight, given me an accurate picture of my strengths, weaknesses, and limitations (not inferiority but accuracy - some would define this accurate picture as a step toward humility), given me a group to pour into, and been very confident of His calling on me. This newest calling toward a group that I have otherwise avoided has been interesting, but I am not afraid. I felt a bit misunderstood by one person in our little small group who gave me a prophetic rebuke yesterday, but she doesn't know me very well. So I asked God about it, and he laughed and told me to forget about it so I did. That is true growth! I haven't stewed on it. I just wanted to be open and teachable about what was said to me. And I discarded it. I am sure the person meant for it to be encouraging, but it was not. I asked a friend who knows me well if I "always" do what this person said that I do, and she said, "No." So that was also confirmation. It was strange, but it was not unnerving. I just needed to treat it rationally and objectively, listening to God's voice versus the voice of my emotions! :)

So this morning has been very rich in review of God's word, and the word transformation came up over and over. I really feel like transformation continues because of making the choice to "Steep" in God's word. That has been really true in my life over the years and over the course of the Bible Book Club, I have had a running log of my reflections since 2007, and it has been so encouraging to have "updates" to previous reflections because I do not feel or act that way any longer. That is true growth!  YAY!

Oh, those flowering trees really look so inviting! Should I just risk it because the rain comes tomorrow, and it will be harder to walk? Hmm. I really need to think about it.

I have put on a bit of weight during the winter so I am attempting to lose that before we go on our 25th wedding anniversary trip in the summer! YAY! I am not too worried because it is not that many pounds, but it is definitely the highest I have been in many years, but it is still the low for what it used to be! I just like those love handles to be GONE. That is when I feel uncomfortable now, ,and it is my red light.

I had to discontinue my March fasting because of the allergies though. Not eating and taking Zertex was really upsetting my stomach!

Well, I have three more minutes, but I am tired of writing, and I think I need to get up and walk around and do some household duties.

Bye. TGIF!

Wednesday Freewrite

I love that I can talk to God seekers everywhere. I love the bird outside that is peaking at the grass and the walker walking by at Dawson Creek. I have not worked down here on the first floor of the Hillsboro Public Library for a very long time, maybe two years. It is not as busy as it usually is. Maybe because it is right before finals week, and there are not that many studying here these days. I like the downstairs because it faces the ponds and creek, and there are so many birds. It is a much better view than the parking lot.

I had a delightful walk around the Tualatin Hills Nature Park with Linda Dean. We met her on the boat in Europe. It was fun to hear about her upcoming adventure to China, and it was fun to reminisce about our trip last May/June. It made me want to go back and see that part of the world again.

I am now listening to Jon Thurlow Soothing Worship, and I am enjoying it . My favorite YouTube videos of him were taken down this last week. I do not know why because they were not copyrighted works. So I am sad about that because I have been listening to them for two years! WAHHH.

Well, I am supposed to write for fifteen to make it an "official" freewrite, but I want to get to Genesis.

BYE!

2. Choose Joy by Kay Warren

I forgot to write this review. I finished this in February. I was pleasantly surprised at the beauty of this book. It is simple and refers to lots of Scripture (although she keeps referring to the "Fall" in Genesis 2 when it was in Genesis 3!) and personal experience. I got it as a free download many months ago and listened to it while traveling. It is very uplifting and was perfect for when I had melanoma (Stage 0) and had to have it removed. It kept me focused on Jesus and JOY (which I like to say is Jesus Over You!).

Since she wrote this book, Kay lost her son to suicide. I am sure she has had to "choose joy" much in the last year. I am praying for her today!

3. Contagious Disciple Making by David L. and Paul D. Watson

I like Miraculous Movements by Jerry Trousdale that covers much of the same information here only in an international setting. (I had dinner with Jerry in January, and he is a delightful individual!) This is very similar only it does go into more detail about the disciple making process.
Most of this book has basic information about disciple making that has been covered in books before it with one significant difference, David and Paul Watson make a case for discipling people in their networks which goes along with the research from Greg Ogden's book Transforming Discipleship: we grow in groups more than we grow in one-on-one discipling relationships. (A drum I have been tapping for years!)

This book's uniqueness is that it goes beyond disciple making methodology to looking at the big picture of reaching the world. I like that. I particularly like the chapters on "Prayer" and "Church".  David Watson is also someone who has seen disciple making movements happen all over the world. He is worth being read, and this is straight from him rather than from someone who is reporting on the results of his methodology.
Sometimes, he gives you the impression that he invented "true discipling" and that he created some of the tools they use. One example is S.P.E.C.K. for making "I will" statements. I learned this term in 1978 while in the Navigators. "I will" statements, while called "application" in the Navigators, have been the hallmark of the Navigators for years. Accountability in "obedience-based" discipleship is also nothing new, but I like that David Watson has been the champion for it even though he did not invent it.  I don't think anyone knows who coined the SPECK acronym, but the authors sound like they are saying, "this is what we do because we invented it" rather than saying, "this is a tool that has been around for many years, and it really helps people make an "I will" statements.
While I like Miraculous Movements more because it explains the methodology via exciting stories, this one has examples in a North American setting and might be easier for a pastor to implement in his church. This one also goes more into detail about developing leaders and being a mentor which I appreciated. If you have never discipled anyone before, this would be a very good basic book to help you get started. Its real strength lies in going beyond discipleship to starting a disciple making movement which is very exciting and strategic.
There was one particular paragraph regarding people who come to Christ and are pulled out of their silo (affinity group, network, oikos) and no longer have influence there. I will quote it without giving my opinion until after:
In our opinion, Satan is at work in these extraction methodologies. Satan encourages the use of extraction evangelism and discipleship strategies because these strategies do not take silos into serious account, and the result is the "winning" of one at the loss of the rest of the family, community, or silo. These are good odds for Satan -- he will encourage us to win one and lose ten or more as a result of these methodologies. Most of us play into Satan's hand, thinking we have done something great by "winning" one, when what we have really accomplished is the losing of a family, community, or silo as a result of extraction strategies. (p.108)
I can see that it goes against the philosophy of disciple making movements. I agree that it is not strategic, but it is certainly not Satanic. Get real!
But do not let that little bit turn you off. It is a valuable book because disciple making is part of maturing in Christ. We need to mentor and be mentored. I love that part of the book!
Here is a little handout I adapted from their material that gives you the "nuts and bolts" of facilitating groups from not-yet followers of Jesus to leaders. Gather a group (silo, affinity network, family) and facilitate discovery through four different studies today!

Soup Psalm

SOUP PSALM

My pen is the tongue of a ready writer.
I have so much that bubbles over in ink onto paper
I love the fragrance of the things you have made
All put together and baked together in a roll!

The smell wafting through my home of
Split peas and meat and spices are mingling together.
This will soon mingle with love and laughter
Of people who love You
Slurping it all down with a BIG soup spoon.

They are the mingling together of people You have made.
They spice the pot of fellowship
And the delicious aroma of the mingling
Makes You smell it and say,
“Ah, smells so good!
This is a soothing aroma and pleasing to Me!
I want to slurp these beautiful people up with a BIG spoon!”

Then You say,
“That is what will happen at the Revelation 7:9 time:
People too huge to count,
Ingredients of cultures, nations, tribes, races, and languages
Standing before me in one big spicy SOUP of humanity - -
Oh and the aroma delights every bit of me,
So yummy as they sing,
‘Salvation to our God on His throne!
Salvation to the Lamb!”
Falling on face before Me with praise.
I am satiated.
I am pleased
With this GOOD soup!”

The Sound of Music

BBC BHAG

BBC  BHAG = Bible Book Club Big Hairy Audacious Goal

I have been pretty focused for the last few months. So I have not been reading very much. I have now TOTALLY completed the third cycle of the Bible Book Club, I edited and updated all the posts and put them in a word processor. I woke up at 2 am yesterday with 2,3 John, Jude, and Revelation on my heart and finished them by 9 am. Seven RICH hours in the Word!

Then I wanted to update my Jesse Tree Devotional, something we do at the end of the third year because we finish the whole Bible by the end of October (in your face Halloween!). So, I worked starting at 9:07 am and took breaks for my walks, household things,  prayer time, TOAG work, and arranging for the Prayer Conference in May, and I finished that by 11:53 pm last night. My word processor said it took me 851 minutes to complete it, over 14 hours!

How weird to wake up this morning and not have my routine of making tea and listening to my Bible (also weird that the guy who narrates the NASB died in a car accident last Wednesday night as I was finishing up this goal. He has been my companion every morning for so many years!).

Of course, I will still read my Bible, but that labor of love (and it really WAS my devotional time for the last 7 years and 2 months and 1 week) has some completeness to it. :)

Update: I decided to go through everything again in order to proofread. So I am still getting up and reading every morning like before! This has taken me 12 1/2 weeks so far, but I am on 1 Corinthians today and should be done by the end of the week! :)

Tuesday Freewrite

I have not done one of these in a very long time. So, I am watching the clock and typing non-stop for fifteen minutes.

I think I needed the extra day to be mostly by myself. I was gone from Wednesday to Sunday on a snowshoe/cross-country ski trip to Idaho with Debbie, and her husband Ralph. It was beautiful at a Yurt 7600 feet up and above a cute little lodge out of Ketchum called Galena. We drove all day on Wednesday through the beautiful Columbia Gorge and Eastern Oregon. I love that drive. It never gets old, and I have not done it for a few years (2011 was the last time). Thursday we packed up and headed to Galena Lodge. It took most of the day. We had two sleds and two backpacks and went up to the "Star's Perch" Yurt. It holds eight people, but there were only four of us. We slept pretty well except the middle of the night potty breaks which Debbie made hilariously funny.  We ate well too (Soup and rolls on Thursday night).  On Friday we got up and went to a trail that led to Alturas Lake (four miles in and four miles out). George snowshoed, and I cross-country skied in. Pretty good for me since I had not done it for 29 years other than around the neighborhood. I only fell three times, and that was more trying to go up an icy hill twice. By the end of the time, I was not falling down trying to go up hills. If it was too steep up or down, I just took off my skis and walked! LOL! I burned 3717 calories that day, only one calorie less than my record going downhill while backpacking with Debbie last time I was in Idaho. It was less of a calorie burn because my total time last Friday was over six hours whereas the backpacking was only about four hours.

What is so great is that I was not even sore doing an exercise I have not done in so many years, and this shows me that I am in good overall shape. It has helped to do Pilates and a little bit of weight-lifting. I just had a little pain at the inside of my left leg, and my massage therapist thinks that maybe something got a bit out of join from falling.

Speaking of my massage therapist. Today was my last time with Jennifer. She is having a baby and then moving to New York. I cried. She gave me a hug. I should have brought her a baby gift, but I did not get around to it.

I was supposed to meet with two girls today, but I woke up with a sore throat, and I did not want to get them sick. I think it was allergies though because I feel pretty good now, but I do not think it a bad idea to give myself two days of mostly time alone after those days of intense time with people. I love my "I" time, and if I overload myself with people, I do get sick! I love people (High "F"), but I have to limit the amount of time I spend with them.

I am also almost done with the editing and transferring to Word of the Bible Book Club! I am in Titus 1, and I estimate I have about 24 more hours of editing to do, and I will be done! That is almost every day for the last 7 years and 2 months! What a valuable thing. I have loved every single minute and have never regretted my decision to go through the whole Bible a chapter at a time: reading, giving background, reflecting, applying, and responding in prayer. It is my magnum opus!

Well, now I am watching the news. I am trying to catch up with it all. I love my life. I love my family. Paul is sick, and I am taking him to his midterm at 8:30 pm because the buses do not run that late. I feel so bad for him being sick and being in the middle of midterms. Poor guy.

Well, I think it has been at least 15 minutes. Bye!

1. Living in Christ's Presence by Dallas Willard and John Ortberg

This book is a transcript of a video series that I purchased. It is the last conference Dallas Willard ever gave and is on his "final words on heaven and the Kingdom of God." It is precious, and my friends borrow my DVD series so much that I decided to buy the book on my Kindle so I could always have it! I like having the written down version because I wrap my mind around it a bit better. Sometimes he can be difficult to read, but he was not difficult to listen to. Consequently, this transcript of the video series will be easier to grasp.  John Ortberg's talks are also quite good as I have always joked that John Ortberg's books were "Dallas Willard for Dummies" because Dallas sometimes is hard to grasp!  The interviews with Ortberg and Willard are also excellent.
Dallas Willard was a seasoned saint and had so much to say about Christ-likeness! I ate up both the DVD series and this book.

Here are just a few quotes:

We have been through a period when the dominant theology simply had nothing to do with discipleship. It had to do with proper belief, with God seeing to it that individuals didn’t go to the bad place, but to the good place. But that developed in such a way that the predominant thought is that a person can have the worst character possible and still get into the good place if he believed the right thing. This disconnection became increasingly burdensome to the church itself until we came to the point that, as is widely discussed, there is not a clear difference between Christians and those who aren’t Christians.
Willard, Dallas; Ortberg, John (2013-12-26). Living in Christ's Presence: Final Words on Heaven and the Kingdom of God (p. 10). InterVarsity Press. Kindle Edition.
Spiritual transformation is not about behavior modification. It is about changing the sources of behavior, so the behavior will take care of itself. When the mind is right and the heart is right and the body and the soul and the relationships that we have in our social world are right, the whole person simply steps into the way of Christ and lives there with joy and strength. It is not a struggle. One of the lies about the spiritual life is that it is hard. No, no. It is not hard. It is the easy way.

Jane Eyre and my Trapdoor Band of Beauties

“I climbed the three staircases, raised the trapdoor of the attic, and having reached the leads, looked out afar over sequestered field and hill, and along dim skyline—that then I longed for a power of vision which might overpass that limit; which might reach the busy world, towns, regions full of life I had heard of but never seen—that then I desired more of practical experience than I possessed; more of intercourse with my kind, of acquaintance with variety of character, than was here within my reach.”

I Am Always More Spiritual in the Mornings . . .

. . . and then the "worries of the world" take over (Mark 4:19). After that glorious post yesterday morning of Kingdom Focus (Matthew 6:33), I was faced with some stressful points of my day! Suzanne emailed me about getting together with Kellie and Jamie in Phoenix, Nathan said the worship leader for next week's conference was not able to do it, people asking to get together with me last minute and coming over at 11:45. That means two meetings back to back (ended up being five hours of meeting time).  Oh my, I have to get all this stuff done for next weekend before they come. Oh, Suzanne, you have been sending emails, and they have not arrived? Oh yes, my husband has never installed the software for the remote desktop to access that particular email account. I wonder how many letters have gone there that we have not responded to.

Then the uncertainty of working with "P" personality types made me wonder: What will we do for a rental car next weekend? Where are we going to sleep? Did Chris mean he would pick us up at the airport when he said, "Have van will travel?"

Oh yes, and in the back of my mind is: "I might have cancer!"  I need my husband home. I write him a text, and we have a tearful exchange before my 11:45 am comes popping in the door. I am tearful with her when I realize that when she said, "I'll bring lunch" she meant "I'll bring my lunch."  So, I go to divide what she has brought, and she looks at me quizzically, "Well, I guess you can have half of my banana."  Oh, she didn't say she would bring lunch for both of us.  Shoot. I thought that is what she meant. Feel stupid. Feel frazzled. I cry.

It was good. She needs to see me the "mentor" in a more vulnerable state. She needed to understand that this whole "spots" thing could be really serious. It may not be, but it will be a while before I know. So, it is a waiting game.

Oh yes, "seek first His Kingdom."  Seek Jesus first (because He is the face of the Kingdom). Good time of talking and good for those I mentor to see me vulnerable.

Encouraged by Renee's email. Yes, she is being impacted by our little Kingdom Band. She writes it in her letter to all of her friends. (Lord, help me not to forgot about getting together with Katherine. She is always so strong, but I do not want to overlook her because I was always overlooked because of my strength!)

Delegation made to George. He will talk to the worship leader (I think we are going with iPad worship next weekend). He will talk to Chris about picking us up. Suzanne is willing to be super flexible about meeting with Jamie and Kellie, but it looks like Sunday night is a possibility. I am the middle person about the schedule. Good she went straight to the source since she works in the same office, and I do not.

Listen to an NPR thing about melanoma diagnosis between Jamie and Kellie. Feeling better about it. Wish I had taken a picture of the spot before she took it out with the biopsy.

George calls to say he is coming home early. He will stay home more instead of living with his mom. I am independent, but I need him. He brings me a salmon salad with hazelnuts, and we all eat Burgerville together and talk. Family is the best. News together and bed. Sleep like a baby where I could not fall asleep the night before because I felt all alone and missed my husband on the weeknights. There is always a withdrawal after his long vacations. Cancer scare exacerbates that. (Isn't that word exacerbates a great word?)

Seeking Jesus again this morning. But then again, I am always more spiritual in the mornings. :) Worries of the world be gone all day today.

On Seeking First God's Kingdom

I was already reading the book quoted below, but I had not gotten to this page. But as I was researching the Kingdom of God for my meditations in Luke 17 this morning, I came across this excerpt and felt God wanted me to pay attention. A portion of this excerpt also popped up in another article I read. In addition, Matthew 6:33 is my verse for the year, I had to post it here to document God's hand on my morning.

The meaning of Matt 16:19 is, therefore, not fundamentally different from Matt. 6:33: "Seek more than anything else to act with the kingdom of God and to have His kind of goodness, and all else you need will be added." (paraphrase) Or Romans 8:32: "He who did not spare his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things." (NAS) Or the well-known Philipians 4:19: "And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." (NAS)
But if the abundance is here, enough even to defeat the "Gates of Hell," why are we not thriving in it? The answer is that we have a key to the keys. The abundance of God to our lives, our families and our ministries is not passively received or imposed and does not happen to us by chance, but is claimed and put into action by our active, intelligent pursuit of it. We must seek out ways to live and act in union with the flow of God's kingdom life that should come through our relationship with Jesus.
There is, of course, no question of doing this purely on our own. But we must act. Grace is opposed to earning, not to effort. And it is well-directed, decisive and sustained effort that is the key to the keys of the kingdom and to the life of restful power in ministry that those keys can open to us.
(The Great Omission:Reclaiming Jesus's Essential Teachings on Discipleship by Dallas Willard, p. 33-34)

Not to be morbid in any way, but it is so interesting to read everything I read this morning in light of possibly facing the end of this life. The biopsy came back "inconclusive" with "darker than normal" cells. Therefore, I am having a surgery to remove it with margins. It will be interesting to see what she finds. It may or may not be melanoma. If it is, it may have been caught early. It may be in my body in other places. But seeking His Kingdom is the focus. I am not afraid of death, and I am grateful He has put it in my heart to be a Kingdom Seeker! :)

Sunday Morning Freewrite

I am going to use different font on this blog depending on my mood. :)

It is 12:29 am, and I am sort of in a rebellious mood saying, "I am not going to go to bed!"  Basically, this will be the last day of my vacation, and I am fighting it! Michael will go back to SOU tomorrow, and George goes back to work on Tuesday.

WAHHHHH! I do not want our family time to be over yet!

I have been working most of the vacation, but the Bible Book Club/Gospel Harmony Book Club is fun work!

I have not done as much communicating by email though. I have tried to just be with the family and be all here! That has been very good.

I have also been working on pictures. The boys put all their pictures in their books through the end of 2013 and chose all their picture for 2014! I just need to upload all of their pictures for the year before Tuesday when Shutterfly's sale ends.

Now to see if I can make the deadline for my pictures from our River Cruise! That is going to be hard. It will be nice to relive the memories though, but 60% of our pictures of 2014 are from that cruise. So, I have a feeling it is going to be about 300 pictures!  But, I have done that many in the past. It is only 1,000 pictures to wade through, and I waded through 10,000 from 2007. So, quit your whining Carol Ann!

I am not worrying about the biopsies. What will be, will be!

I face the future with wide-eyed wonder and excitement about what is around the corner!

Now, back to my pictures!

Happy New Year from the Weavers! (Click on it if you want to see it in a larger size)

My Lord and Me 2014

I always have a day of prayer at the end of the year to evaluate it and set some goals for the next year.

Nine of us met at Tri-Delta Sorority at 9 am on December 31, 2014. Teala is the house mom there, and we think we have done this for eighteen year now (with two years off in 1997-98 because we were in Malaysia).  Kim, Katherine, Joanne, George, Jordan, Jamie, and Nancy joined us with everyone but Kim, Katherine, and Nancy staying to the end. We had a nice time of evaluation with a theme of God being KING and us being His prince and princesses. Pretty cool when we gathered to talk about our time.

God had given me Matthew 6:33-34 a couple of days before the time, it was confirmed when I got up to read and review Matthew 6 in the Bible Book Club:

But seek first
His kingdom
and
His righteousness;
and all these things shall be added to you.

Therefore, do not be anxious

for tomorrow;
for tomorrow will care for itself
each day has enough trouble of its own.

When I reviewed 2014 Days of Prayer (Nine - two partial days; two 48 hour; and five full days) and into the prior year, I found some great themes. Matthew 6 had popped up on March 7, 2014 in The Message version:

STEEP your life in God-reality (God's present kingdom),
God-initiative, God-provisions,
Don't worry about missing out.
You'll find all  your everyday human concerns will be met.
Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now,
and don't get worked up
about what may or may not happen tomorrow.
God will help you deal with whatever
hard things come up when the time comes.

STEEPing tea is the vision that Amanda had of me when we were listening to God for each other in February 2014 (I guess I could count that as a 48 hour retreat, but it was ;mostly group prayer). She did not even know I loved tea! Her words were "tea steeping, longer steeping, leaves soaking, strength from steeping, waiting, training.

So this "King's daughter who is all glorious within" (Psalm 45) will "Seek FIRST" His kingdom this year.

I developed a detailed "SEEK FIRST 2015 FIFTEEN"

HEART (well-adjusted emotions)

1. FUN with the LORD (take pictures of His creation, write)
2. FUN with my family (Yellowstone, France and Camino de Santiago for George and I)

6. "LOW" - Listen and Obey God and WRITE it down (LOW journal?) Found this quote from a previous day of prayer, but I am not sure where I found it. I was in the Upper Room in Salem at the time:
"This world does not change because you do not change. But the world can change if you change.
How can you change?
By listening to God. For God is always speaking, just as the sun is always shining. In the morning before distractions and problems of the day, you can listen to God
How can you listen?
Here is the answers: you write it down. Write it down so that you can listen better, and you can remember His words." Father Gratry
Being a notoriously forgetful person, writing down what God tells me has been a great thing this year! The shower/tub crayon has been a boon to my existence (and probably a pain to my housecleaner!).

6) Jon Thurlow Soothing Worship times

At 1 pm, I went for a 8.1 mile walk (I lost track because I was deep in prayer and worship of God's beauty all around me - what a way to end the year!!), and I evaluated and prayed through my #1 Low of the year for the first 2.5 miles! This Low related to #2/4 because I had shared how emotionally devastating it was for the husband to be so rude to me on the phone, but it was not even acknowledged. It was enlightening, and I did what I felt was a healthy thing living out my "boldly beloved" destiny, being honest about how my feelings had been hurt. I was fearful to do it, and it came across as angry (which has happened to me in the past, but it had not happened for several years).

In evaluating, I realized I did not "listen and obey"! Whether I forgot or was too afraid to obey, when I reviewed my day of prayer from August 14, God had specifically told me to say, "No" to this friend (cannot go into the details of what that was about). I did not do that, and it ended up coming to a head 10 days later with my feelings being hurt.

The problem would have been avoided had I just obeyed that! I should have LISTENED AND OBEYED! She just was not in a position to give anything to me emotionally when I really needed it, and in the subsequent conflict resolution, it came to be all my responsibility to "tell her when I am feeling pressured/controlled by her. I had a responsibility to simply say, "No" up front. Then there would have been no room for pressure or control. I felt like if I had just obeyed in the first place, the conflict would not have happened. I cannot expect anything in the way of emotional support when I am down (which is pretty rare). So, she cannot be one of my "go to" girls when the chips are down. I have others who can fill that place. That is why we have more than one friend! Good evaluation time!

Thankfully the 2.5 miles of struggling through that was followed by 5.5 miles of adoring the beautiful, sunny day and praying for others God brought to mind. Then I prayed in Kelly Engineering building on campus (home of my son's major and the major of many of the seekers I am investing in!)

I came back to wrap up my day of prayer in joy. What a great day!

There are more verses I feel that will guide the year: I feel like God gave me some nice words:

Psalm 92:12-15 - His promise of a fruitful, long life
Mark 6:31 - "If you do not 'come apart', you will 'come apart'" (quote form the Trappist Abbey pamphlet on private retreats)
Mark 12:30-31 (that is above in this blog)
